Replacing toner powder in an H-P 2200 laser printer?

In the past, I made in hole in my cartridge(H-P 2200) and put toner powder from another H-P printer(4L) and it worked perfectly. Now I acquired Canon toner cartidges(NPG-5) and poured it's toner into the H-P cartridge and the print is terrible.

Why?

Thanks,

Probably for a variety of reasons.

One would be because not all toner is alike, the dust is designed to work with a certain form of drum. What you have in there now is photocopier grade toner. It isn't as fine. It is designed for speed. It is highly charged and not capable of printing in extremely high resolutions.

Likewise the electrostatic roller on a toner cartridge degrades, as do all the nylon gears. Chances are that the body is wearing out, on top of having a toner which is too coarse and carries far to strong of an electromagnetic charge.
