What is printer toner and how can you change it?

i have a hp deskjet 3940 printer and my computer tells me that my toner is low. i dont know what that is or how you change it and i really need to print out some clip art pictures. can you help me!?!What is printer toner and how can you change it?
Your toner is the ink that allows your printer to print. in order to change your toner, you need to buy a replacement toner. I am assuming that this is a color printer. Does it specify which toner is low? i.e black toner or color toner? either way you will need to buy the specific toner that is compatible with your printer. There are two types of printer. Inkjet printers and Laser printers.





Inkjet printers are very good at printing pictures, but can also print text. They run on ink cartridges.





Laser printers are very good at printing text, but can also print pictures. These need toner (a black or colored powder made of plastic).





The HP Deskjet 3940 is an inkjet printer and so to print anything it needs ink. The ink comes in two kinds of cartridge (a) black and (b) three colors.





If you need to print urgently then you need a trip to the shopping mall and some cash.





Cartridges can cost $15 to $25 each. You need at least one color cartridge and one black cartridge. For text printing, a black cartridge only will be fine.





A search on cartridge deskjet 3940 will get you some idea of exact prices. Usually they are cheaper on-line or if you buy in bulk (box of 10 for example or box of 5).





You can save money by buying cartridges from another manufacturer selling compatible cartridges. Some people say these are not as good as the originals. Other people use them all the time. The choice is yours.

Toner is like the ink in it. Ink is for inkjet printers and toner is for laser printers. Its a cartridge filled with a black dusty/chalky material.
